A Gift for ____

For Pedro, from one born a hundred years later

To Pedro Nolasco da Encarnação, my great-great-grandfather, who lived in the Recôncavo Baiano in 1887, one year before the abolition of slavery in Brazil. This world is a gift of living memory: here he was given form, voice and movement in a valley you can walk into — and a story in which he stands up to the Matinta Pereira to free those held captive. A gift of Afro-Brazilian resilience, ancestry and folklore, from a descendant born a hundred years later. Ramon Santana Santos
  1. Great-great-grandparents Pedro Nolasco da Encarnação and Honorata de Jesus
  2. Great-grandparents Isaura de Jesus and Marcos da Paixão
  3. Grandparents Altamira de Jesus and Antônio de Santana
  4. Parents Odete de Jesus Santana and Paulo Costa Santos
  5. Author Ramon Santana Santos

In bold, the line that leads to Pedro: Ramon, his mother Odete, his grandmother Altamira, his great-grandmother Isaura and his great-great-grandfather Pedro. Beside each, the person they married.

The project's answers

One-sentence pitch
A playable 3D valley built as a gift to Pedro Nolasco da Encarnação, the author's great-great-grandfather, in Bahia's Recôncavo in 1887 — with characters, houses, trees and props generated in Tripo.
How does your project fit the theme "A Gift for ____"?
The gift is for a real person: Pedro Nolasco da Encarnação, who lived in a fishing village in the Recôncavo one year before abolition. The game gives him back a place to exist: the real map of Bom Jesus dos Pobres, the sea from the nautical chart, the church rebuilt from photos, the crafts of fishing and farming. In the story Pedro is the guide who meets the traveller at the pier, and the hero of the chapters that inspire the campaign.
How did you use Tripo?
Tripo is the source of all 84 models in the valley: 9 characters, 10 buildings, 23 plant species, 23 hand items and 18 props. Characters come out of Studio in the HD model and go through Smart Mesh retopology. Pedro and the seven villagers receive humanoid rigs and animation clips; the traveler model does not yet have a rig or animations. The 2D sibling game's art is used as the input image, which kept the art direction consistent. The 68-piece batch of 26/09 was generated through Studio automation. In game, the forest plants 6,234 trees of these species.
Tools & technologies
Tripo (Studio, HD H3.1, Smart Mesh, auto-rig, animations), Godot 4.7.2, ElevenLabs (music, effects and voices), OpenAI gpt-image-2 (painted covers and repaints), Google Earth and DHN nautical chart 1108 (real map and sea), Laravel 13 (this site) and Remotion (teaser).
What's next?
The game is in development and keeps getting updates: house interiors, animated animals, the campaign's geography and the farm journey, where Pedro faces the Matinta Pereira.

Game track

How the jury scores, and where the valley answers

  • 30% Creativity
A gift for a real ancestor, in a real place, with Brazilian folklore and the history of the Recôncavo in 1887 — and a visual identity of its own, drawn from the Baroque altarpiece.
  • 25% Completeness
A playable build with systems covered by the project's tests, a valley made only with Tripo, four languages in the menu, a soundtrack, crossing narration and villagers who speak in voices of their own.
  • 20% Theme fit
The world is literally a gift with a name, an address and a date: Pedro, Bom Jesus dos Pobres, 1887.
  • 15% Viral potential
A family story anyone can understand, a real place people from Bahia recognize, and a 70-second teaser that goes from the painted crossing into the game, alongside the concept film with subtitles in four languages and the vertical footage.
  • 10% Commercial value
A life-and-exploration game with a Brazilian setting rarely seen on the market, and a production line with Tripo that a small team can sustain.

Tripo track

  • 35% Inventive use of the tool
The sister game's 2D art becomes Tripo's input image, and the same piece serves the valley and the browser, in a lightweight version.
  • 25% Synergy between tools
Tripo for the pieces, Mixamo and ElevenLabs for the gestures and voices of those same characters, OpenAI for the identity, Godot to bring it all together.
  • 20% The tool’s contribution
Tripo supports a catalog of 263 GLB files, including distant variants, with rigs and clips for characters and animals. The small team documents prompts and tasks to sustain this production.
  • 10% Fit with the theme
The gift has a named recipient: Pedro Nolasco da Encarnação. Tripo gives this gift a body, with Pedro, the villagers and the houses of the 1887 village generated from the project’s art.
  • 10% Standout potential
Brazilian culture almost absent from 3D games: Bahia’s Recôncavo, the Matinta Pereira, fishing and manioc flour, made with Tripo by a small team.
